SUMMARY & BACKGROUND:
The City of Toledo is partnering with Metroparks Toledo to develop the $250 million Glass City Riverwalk, transforming both sides of the Maumee Riverfront from the High Level Bridge to the Veterans' Glass City Skyway Bridge. Recognizing the importance of safe and accessible connections, the City and Metroparks have collaborated on multiple pedestrian and traffic calming initiatives to improve access from surrounding neighborhoods.

As part of this commitment, the City and Metroparks commissioned a streetscape enhancement plan for Front Street in East Toledo in 2021. This plan later served as the foundation for a successful application to the U.S. Department of Transportation's Reconnecting Communities Grant Program, securing $28 million to implement critical improvements.

Building on this success, the City and Metroparks have identified the need to enhance safety and walkability along the Summit Street Corridor in the Vistula Neighborhood, from the Craig Street Memorial Bridge to oCherry Street. These improvements will complement significant private-sector investments along the corridor while making the area safer and more accessible for residents, visitors, and businesses connected to the Riverwalk.

Under Ordinance 43-24, the City committed to developing a comprehensive streetscape plan for Summit Street as part of its Development Agreement with Metroparks Toledo.
