Title
Authorizing the appropriation and expenditure of $105,000 from the Water Replacement Fund for the Heatherdowns Pump Station Repair Project; authorizing the Mayor to accept bids and award contracts for the said project; and declaring an emergency.
Body
SUMMARY & BACKGROUND:
Pump and Motor #2 at the Heatherdowns Pump Station exhibited a significant and concerning vibration issue, prompting plant operators to shut the unit down and submit a request for an immediate investigation. Vibration analysis indicated that the source of the issue was most likely the motor and or pump. Given the severity of the vibration, the time since the last refurbishment, and previous experiences with similar equipment at the station, plant management elected to send both the pump and motor to a specialized contractor for comprehensive inspection and refurbishment. To remove and reinstall the 600 HP motor and a 42-foot vertical turbine pump, two cranes will work in tandem, this ensure the project is executed safely and efficiently. Due to the size and complexity of the equipment, this work requires the expertise of a dedicated specialist.
