Recognizing Central Catholic High School Track & Field Athletes Win State Championship.
Summary
WHEREAS, Five Irish Track & Field student-athletes won state titles during the State Track and Field Competition at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium in Columbus, Ohio; the last time an Irish student-athlete won the state title for track and field was 1998; and
WHEREAS, Simone Green won the girls long jump with a leap of 17 feet, 91/2 inches; Michael and Matthew Griffin, Dalin Morris, and Jalen Riven won the 4x400m relay finishing with a time of 3:18.86. The Central Catholic's boys finished with 21 points, good enough for sixth place, while the Irish girls finished 11th with 18 points; and
WHEREAS, Head coach, Dane Sanzenbacher, who completed his first year as head coach, said, "State Champions in track and field come along once in a long while. I can't overstate how difficult it is to accomplish what these kids accomplished this year. I'm extremely proud of these young men and women, both as a coach and an alumnus;" and
WHEREAS, Dane Sanzenbacher along with Sidney Marious serve as running coaches, while Al Campos is a long jump coach; and
WHEREAS, in the fall, Simone will be attending University of Findlay on a track and field scholarship; Michael and Matthew Griffin will attend Indiana State University for football; Dalin Morris will also attend college and Jalen Riven will be a Junior at Central Catholic; NOW, THEREFORE,
Be it resolved by the Council of the City of Toledo:
SECTION 1. That we recognize Central Catholic Track & Field Athletes for their successful season.
SECTION. 2. That this Resolution shall take effect and be in force from and after the earliest period allowed by law.
