Recognizing El Tipico on the 55th anniversary year.
Summary
WHEREAS, during this Hispanic Heritage Month, El Tipico restaurant is being recognized for fifty-five years of serving delicious locally grown food to customers, friends, and family; and
WHEREAS, on March 12, 1968, Ezekiel and Consuelo Villa opened El Tipico Taco with the goal of serving top quality food to guests; and
WHEREAS, Ezekiel was a notable figure for many reasons including being the youngest man on record to join the US Air Force at fourteen years of age and for starting Christ Latino Mission inside Christ Presbyterian Church at Talmadge and Sylvania, the first bilingual church in the area; and
WHEREAS, Consuelo a former migrant worker and restaurant worker was happy working hard to grow fresh produce to support the needs of the restaurant by managing four gardens as well as the restaurant, she also became well known at festivals and fairs for her concession stand; and
WHEREAS, El Tipico is now proudly managed by Dina Villa who in 2013, led a transition to the use of all organic ingredients and can proudly claim the title of only fresh and organic Mexican Restaurant in Ohio; and
WHEREAS, Dina and El Tipico has regularly served the community through donations to Water for Ishmael, Zoo to Do, Imagination Station, Food for Thought, Leadership Toledo, Cedarcreek Food Outreach, Adopt America, Compassion Health Toledo and many other local organizations; NOW, THEREFORE,
Be it resolved by the Council of the City of Toledo:
SECTION 1. That we celebrate El Tipico the longest running Mexican restaurant in the Toledo area and the exemplary service to the community over the last fifty-five years.
SECTION 2. That this Resolution shall take effect and be in force from and after the earliest period allowed by law.
