Recognizing October 31st as Founders Day for the Girl Scouts of the United States of America.
Summary
WHEREAS, October 31, is recognized by the Girl Scouts of the United States of America as Founders Day; and
WHEREAS, the Girl Scouts of the United States of America was founded by Juliette Gordon Low in 1912 in Savannah, Georgia with the mission to teach girls self-reliance and resourcefulness; and
WHEREAS, the Girl Scouts have always been run by girls for girls with the leadership positions always held by women; and
WHEREAS, the Girl Scouts have been integral in the formation of many girls and women by teaching skills including preparedness and self-confidence through outdoor skills; fundraising through cookie sales; and more recently increased activates to help promote women in STEM fields; and
WHEREAS, Founders Day is celebrated every year on October 31, the day of founder Juliette Gordon Low’s birthday, commemorated with parties and sharing birthday cake in her honor; NOW, THEREFORE,
Be it resolved by the Council of the City of Toledo:
SECTION 1. That Toledo City Council commemorates Girls Scouts of the United States of America’s Founders Day and that we encourage girls and young women to become active members of the community.
SECTION 2. That this Resolution shall take effect and be in force from and after the earliest period allowed by law.
