Summary
SUMMARY & BACKGROUND:
WHEREAS, born and raised in Toledo, Ohio, Byron J. Daniels, Sr. was born the 6th child, of 11, to Reverend Willie and Aljay Daniels; and
WHEREAS, Byron graduated from the historic Jesup W. Scott High School, where he played football, and joined his fellow team mates in bringing home three city league championships; "ONCE A BULLDOG, ALWAYS A BULLDOG"; and
WHEREAS, a member of the 46th Toledo Police Department's (TPD) academy class, at the age of 40, Byron was hired into the TPD on December 10, 1993; since his hiring, he has worked in Operations, Community Services, the Police Probation team and on September 1, 2017, Byron was promoted to Sergeant at Arms for the Toledo City Council; and
WHEREAS, in 2015, Officer Daniels, then part of the TPD's Police Prevention Team, had a leadership role in the third annual Brains and Body Summer Fitness Challenge held at Robinson Jr. High School teaching "young people to use their bodies, and their brains"; and
WHEREAS, Byron, humbly often tells young people about his upbringing in the Brand Whitlock homes, previously the oldest affordable, public housing complex in Toledo, sharing his childhood struggles growing up in a one parent home, "...straight from the hood. No silver spoon in my mouth", he tells them; and
WHEREAS, through the motto "keep your record clean", Byron encourages the youth; because,--with a clean record, opportunities are endless; and
WHEREAS, Byron and his wife Clydia Harris, of 48 years, have two beautiful children, Shannon and Byron Jr. (BJ), six grandchildren and three, soon to be four, great grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, Byron is an avid runner who has run multiple marathons; he works out daily, watches football and other sports in his "Man Cave", and enjoys reading, particularly, his favorite book, the Bible; and
