Recognizing The Links, Incorporated 50th Anniversary.
Summary
WHEREAS, The Links, Incorporated, one of the nation's oldest and largest volunteer service organizations of women committed to enriching, sustaining, and ensuring the culture and economic survival of African Americans and other persons of African ancestry is celebrating the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Toledo Chapter; and
WHEREAS, on October 21, 1972, the Toledo Chapter of the Links, Incorporated, was formed and Laura Palmer was installed as president; the fourteen charter members included: Ernestine Butler, Richardene Chadwell, Faye Fenwick, Jacquelyn Gray, Mildred Harrison, Kate Jackson, Joyce Jones, Marietta Leverette, Olivia Murphy, Charlie B. Nunn, Marion Nunn, Laura Palmer, Marianne Payne, Odessa Rowan; and
WHEREAS, some notable accomplishments throughout the years include the first African American Art Exhibit at the Toledo Museum of Art (1973), Media Resource Center at Mott Branch Library (1981), Mary Belle Shealey Tribute (1997), Polly Fox Academy Scholarship Chapter contribution (2000's), creation of Toledo Healthcare Providers "Green Book" (2019), ongoing sponsor of Maumee Valley Habitat for Humanity Project Playhouse, and sponsoring a book discussion with Anti-Human Trafficking Coalition featuring "A Seat at the Table" by Celia Williamson, PhD; and
WHEREAS, the Toledo Chapter of The Links, Incorporated was the thirty second chapter to be established in the Central Area; and
WHEREAS, as one of two hundred ninety nine chapters of The Links, Incorporated, the Toledo Chapter currently has a membership of twenty-nine business and civic leaders, role models, mentors, and activists who are devoted to the mission of The Links, Incorporated; NOW, THEREFORE,
