Designating the week of April 6 - 10 of 2026 as National Community Development Week, and declaring an emergency.

 

Summary

                     WHEREAS, the week of April 6 - 10, 2026 has been designated by the National Community Development Association as National Community Development to celebrate the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program; and

 

                     WHEREAS, the CDBG Program provides annual funding and flexibility to local communities to provide decent, safe, and affordable housing, a suitable living environment, and economic opportunities to low-and moderate-income people; and

 

                     WHEREAS, the City of Toledo recognizes the importance of community development and the CDBG Program in fostering vibrant, inclusive, and resilient neighborhoods; and

 

                     WHEREAS, over the past five years our community has received a total of $36,503,749 in CDBG funds and has funded a variety of projects that have directly benefited Toledoans and Neighborhoods; and

 

                     WHEREAS, the City of Toledo remains committed to leveraging federal resources through the CDBG Program to build a more prosperous future for all residents.

 

NOW THEREFORE, be it resolved that:

 

                     SECTION 1. That this Council designates the week of April 6-10, 2026 as “National Community Development Week” in support of this valuable program that has made tremendous contributions to the viability of the housing, infrastructure, public services and the economic well-being of the community.

 

                     SECTION 2. That this Resolution shall take effect and be in force from and after the earliest period allowed by law.
