Recognizing and Congratulating the 2024-2025 Toledo Area Class of United States Department of State High School Foreign Exchange Students and Designating Them as Honorary City of Toledo Citizens
Summary
WHEREAS, each year Toledo area High Schools have the honor of receiving more than a dozen United States Department of State foreign exchange students who reside with local host families.
WHEREAS, these students are selected through a highly competitive process with each of their home countries, that results in our receiving the best and brightest representatives of their respective nations;
WHEREAS, this year's students represented the nations of Cameroon, Egypt, Hungary, Indonesia Italy, Kenya, Libya, Mali, Mozambique, Pakistan, Sierra Leone and Tanzania, which include four countries where Toledo Sister Cities are located, including Szeged, Hungary; Ferrara, Italy; Hyderabad, Pakistan; and Tanga, Tanzania; and
WHEREAS, each Council Agenda Review day, pairs of students participated in a hands-on job shadowing opportunity with the members and staff of the Toledo City Council, where they engaged in discussions pertaining to American style federal, state, and local government, shared information about their home countries, and observed an Agenda Review meeting of the Council; and
WHEREAS, the encounter between the students, staff, and members proved to be an enriching and valuable learning experience for all involved.
NOW, THEREFORE, Be it Resolved by the Council of the City of Toledo, Ohio:
SECTION 1. That, 2024-2025 Toledo Area Class of United States Department of State High School Foreign Exchange Students are recognized and congratulated on the successful completion of their academic year and required program activities.
