Summary

SUMMARY & BACKGROUND:

WHEREAS, we celebrate 75 years of Sunshine Communities “building lives by breaking barriers for individuals with developmental disabilities in Northwest Ohio”; and

 

WHEREAS, in 1950, with five children of their own with disabilities, Roy and Georgette Engler opened Sunshine Children’s Home with the help of their neighboring Mennonite congregation; and

 

WHEREAS, The Englers’ dream has become more than just a home for individuals with disabilities, it’s family; residents “live, work and thrive” at Sunshine; and

 

WHEREAS, along Swan Creek just outside of Maumee on the 25-acre campus, residents and day service individuals experience a multitude of activities in the vocational center, barn, greenhouse, sensory room, pool and gym, therapy suites and so much more; and

 

WHEREAS, with 29 homes in two counties, Sunshine Communities has offered support to over 250 individuals from 30 states, with “a commitment to progression, inclusion and integration of individuals with developmental disabilities within [their] community.”

 

NOW THEREFORE, Be it resolved that:

 

SECTION 1. that we celebrate Sunshine Communities 75 years of “Promise to Progress”.

 

SECTION 2. That this Resolution shall take effect and be in force from and after the earliest period allowed by law.
