Title
Officially designating the new park property located at 3184 North Summit Street as Pontiac Preserve; and declaring an emergency.
Body
SUMMARY & BACKGROUND:
These 59-acres located on the lower Maumee River near the mouth of Lake Erie, were previously a confined disposal facility filled with sediment dredged from the Maumee River shipping channel in the late 1960s - early 1970s. Named "Penn 7", the project is located along a section of the Maumee River where wetland habitat was almost non-existent, and human access was virtually impossible. As a result of a recent restoration project funded by the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative supported by the National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration and a second phase of work focused on installing public access amenities, the site is now ready to be opened as a publicly accessible park. This Ordinance authorizes the official designation for this property to be Pontiac Preserve, as Pontiac St. intersects with Summit St. at the entrance to this park.
Summary
NOW THEREFORE Be it ordained by the Council of the City of Toledo:
SECTION 1. That the park property located at 3184 North Summit St. shall be officially designated Pontiac Preserve.
SECTION 2. That this Ordinance be an emergency measure and shall take and be in force and effect after its passage. The reason for the emergency lies in the fact that the Ordinance is necessary for the immediate preservation of the public peace, health, safety and property and for the further reason that this Ordinance must be immediately effective in order to ensure that the proper name for the property appears on necessary permits and signage.
