Recognizing Great Lakes Consortium on its 20th Anniversary.
Summary
WHEREAS, the Great Lakes Consortium celebrates its 20th year of service to the local and international community by bringing people together to learn and grow from different cultures instead of letting differences separate us; and
WHEREAS, the Great Lakes Consortium was formed in 1999 with the encouragement of Congresswomen Marcy Kaptur and with creative support from Al Baldwin that resulted in the formation of a partnership with Great Lakes Community Action Partnership (formerly WSOS); and
WHEREAS, the Advisory Board of Great Lakes Consortium comes from diverse backgrounds with knowledge in training and mentoring, urban and rural activism, cultural diversity, artistic and small business development, and higher education; with support from educational institutions including the University of Toledo, Bowling Green State University, and Lourdes University; and
WHEREAS, the Great Lakes Consortium has worked with organizations in twenty countries including Afghanistan, Albania, Belarus, Botswana, Bulgaria, Guatemala, Haiti, Hungary, Jordan, Kyrgyzstan, Lebanon, Moldova, Romania, Russia, Slovakia, Tanzania, UAE, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, and Zambia, and
WHEREAS, the Great Lakes Consortium and Great Lakes Community Action Partnership have opened Toledo to the world through more than 1,400 foreign participants in Northwest Ohio and the world to more than 1,000 Americans who have traveled abroad; Have generated $7.4 million in funding for international programs in NW Ohio; Received twenty grants from the U.S. Department of State; Eight grants from USAID Community Connection Programs; Six Open World Leadership Center grants; and
