Recognizing Carmen Williamson.
Summary
WHEREAS, Mr. Carmen Williamson made history in 1984, at the Los Angeles Olympic games as the first African American to work as a referee and boxing judge; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Williamson grew up in Toledo and began boxing to protect himself from bullies at his school; and
WHEREAS, in his career Mr. Williamson had a record of 250-14 in the ring, and continued to be involved with boxing throughout his life as a referee and judge; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Williamson has dedicated his life to the sport of boxing and has been recognized throughout the world for it; he has traveled to Russia, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, multiple countries in Africa, as well as North and South America as a U.S. Boxing representative; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Williams with his wife raised five daughters: Carol Ann Reeves, Carmenita Ross, Charlene Higginbotham, Carlotta Brown and Celia Williamson who he taught about the sport of boxing; NOW, THEREFORE,
Be it resolved by the Council of the City of Toledo:
SECTION 1. That we continue to honor the contributions that Mr. Carmen Williamson made to the community and for the sport of boxing.
SECTION 2. That this Resolution shall take effect and be in force from and after the earliest period allowed by law.
