Recognizing Paul Kwapich for his contributions to our local news media on the occasion of his retirement from WTOL 11

Summary
WHEREAS, a proud graduate of St. Francis de Sales High School and the University of Toledo, Paul Kwapich began his career in photojournalism at WTOL in 1982; and

WHEREAS, since then and over the years Paul evolved through various roles with the CBS affiliate television station in positions that included Floor Director, Director, News Photographer, Chief Photographer, and eventually News Operations Manager ensuring the smooth operation of one of Toledo's most trusted newsrooms; and

WHEREAS, Paul's influence has been described as "immeasurable", and he is considered not only a mentor, but also a trailblazer in photojournalism instilling in team members the importance of capturing not only images, but stories; and

WHEREAS, with a commitment to excellence in both technical skills and storytelling, Paul has been a conduit through which many have witnessed some of the most pivotal moments throughout the region and across the nation including the historical move of the Jeep corporation to north Toledo, the water crisis, Flag City Honor Flight trips, presidential visits and space shuttle launches; and

WHEREAS, Paul's expertise has been recognized over the years with numerous accolades which include being named Photographer of the Year three times by the Ohio News Photographers Association, and he has received a regional Edward R Murrow Award for excellence in storytelling.

NOW, THEREFORE, Be it resolved by the Council of the City of Toledo:

SECTION 1. That we recognize the legacy of dedication, passion and integrity that Paul Kwapich has provided to our local news media, and we salute his accomplishments on the occassion of his retirement after 42 years of service with WTOL 11.
