Body
SUMMARY & BACKGROUND:
On July 9th, 2022 17-year-old St. Francis De Sales High School Student Marvelous Walton was shot and killed in Toledo. Walton was preparing to enter his senior year at St. Francis, where he played football. In his memory, Josh and Andrew Maassel, and other classmates and teammates started Stand Up Ohio, a nonprofit organization aimed at combatting gun violence while helping victims and their families and supporting youth through mentorship and school safety. Since its inception, they have brought area football teams together to take pledges against gun violence, partnered with the city, TPS, and Washington Local Schools to create the 'Pass on Gun Violence" video campaign, and raised money through the sale of wristbands. They now wish to donate the proceeds from the wristbands to the Mayor's Office of Safety and Engagement (MONSE) to be used in our fight against gun violence.
