Recognizing Dimitri Georgevich, in his retirement, and Dimitri’s Heel to Toe Shoe Repair for over 100 years of service to the community.
Summary
WHEREAS, the Georgevich Family has been in the shoe repair business since 1922, spanning six generations; and
WHEREAS, Dimitri Georgevich took over the business in 1973, after learning the art of shoe repair from his father; and
WHEREAS, the original store was located at Broadway and South, later moving to Key Street near Heatherdowns Boulevard and opening a second store on Airport Highway, serving the community for 20 years at each of those locations; and
WHEREAS, Dimitri’s Heel to Toe Shoe Repair was known as a one-stop-shop, with repairs ranging from sole and heel repair, orthopedic shoe modifications and build-ups and shoe stretching, to the repair of baseball mitts, jackets, purses and briefcases, also carrying a wide range of over the counter orthotics and shoe accessories; and
WHEREAS, Dimitri is recognized by family and friends as the hardest working person they know; rain, shine or snowstorm, he was up at dawn to get to work; and
WHEREAS, the shop door was always open to his three daughters, where he taught them the value of a good work ethic or just enjoying a conversation over lunch; they continued to support their father, working around the shop over the years, up until it was time to pack up; and
WHEREAS, in July of this year, after 40 years of operating the family business, Dimitri announced his retirement and the closing of Dimitri’s Heel to Toe Shoe Repair; during his retirement he will continue providing bags and airplane plugs for Tronair; NOW, THEREFORE,
Be it resolved by the Council of the City of Toledo:
SECTION 1. That we recognize and celebrate Dimitri’s retirement and the entire Georgevich family, for their reputation for fine craftsmanship, exceptional shoe, purse and jacket repair, and top-notch customer service, and wish Dimitri and his family the best in their future endeavors.
SECTION 2. That this Resolution shall take effect and be in force from and after the earliest period allowed by law.
