Title

Authorizing the Mayor to enter into a State of Ohio, Ohio TechCred program grant agreement and to accept and deposit grant funds in an amount not to exceed $30,000 per grant application period into the Information and Communications Technology Fund; authorizing the Mayor to enter into contracts for information technology-related training; authorizing the expenditure of funds from the Information Technology Fund; and declaring an emergency.

Body

SUMMARY & BACKGROUND:

This ordinance authorizes the Mayor to accept, deposit, and expend funds related to Ohio TechCred and training for the IT department. Ohio TechCred grant awards up to $30,000 per grant application period, subject to the rules and guidelines set forth by Ohio TechCred.  Additionally, this ordinance authorizes the Mayor to enter into an agreement with United Training for the facilitation of training programs.

In late 2022, the City of Toledo applied for the Ohio TechCred grant program. Approval was received on January 5, 2023. Application periods open several times throughout the year at the discretion of Ohio TechCred. IT will continue to apply during each application period.

Furthermore, an RFP was issued seeking a training partner to assist in navigating the grant program, offering online and in-person classes, being a certified training partner with Microsoft and others, and offering training classes at established costs. Based on these requirements and the responses to the RFP, United Training was chosen as the preferred partner.

Passage of this ordinance is required to enable the City of Toledo to accept Ohio TechCred grants and to proceed with employee training through United Training.
