Authorizing the application for funding from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources’ NatureWorks grant to construct improvements for the outdoor amphitheater in Ottawa Park; and declaring an emergency.
Summary
WHEREAS, the State of Ohio, through the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, administers financial assistance for public recreation purposes, through the State of Ohio NatureWorks Grant Program; and
WHEREAS, the Ottawa-Jermain Park Advisory Board, in cooperation with the Division of Parks, Recreation and Forestry, has applied for a grant to fund the construction of improvements to the amphitheater in Ottawa Park; and
WHEREAS, the grant application must include a formal resolution indicating approval by the host municipality to apply for the funding for the target project; and
WHEREAS, improvements to the amphitheater include sewer construction, rebuilding and repairing stone walls and steps, and electrical improvements, all in the interest of safety; and
WHEREAS, the amount of $98,832 is being applied for in this 26th round of the Nature Works grant and that the City of Toledo is committed to matching funds of $32,944, or 25% of the overall project amount of $131,776; and
WHEREAS, the City of Toledo Division of Parks, Recreation and Forestry, desires financial assistance under the NatureWorks Grant Program; NOW, THEREFORE,
Be it resolved by the Council of the City of Toledo:
SECTION 1. That the Mayor and City Council approves filing this application for financial assistance.
SECTION 2. That the City of Toledo Division of Parks, Recreation and Forestry is hereby authorized and directed to execute and file an application with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources and to provide all information and documentation required to become eligible for possible funding assistance.
SECTION 3. That the Council hereby resolves that it will, subject to availability of funds, appropriate monies as may be required to become eligible for 75% reimbursement under the terms of the NatureWorks Grant Program.
SECTION 4. That this Resolution is declared to be an emergency measure and shall be in force and effect from and after its passage. The reason for the emergency lies in the fact that the same is necessary for the immediate preservation of the public peace, health, safety and property, and for the further reason that the Resolution must be immediately effective in order for the City of Toledo’s application for financial assistance for the Ottawa Park amphitheater.
