Recognizing The Fair Housing Center’s Fiftieth Anniversary and Fifty Years of Service to the Toledo Community.

 

Summary

SUMMARY & BACKGROUND:

WHEREAS, in 1975, The Fair Housing Center was founded and immediately became a critical pillar of the Toledo community, working to ensure equal access to housing for all; and

 

WHEREAS, funding from the City of Toledo helped establish The Fair Housing Center, and this partnership has continued through 2025, marking 50 years of service; and

 

WHEREAS, The Fair Housing Center has been instrumental in eliminating housing discrimination, promoting housing choice, and creating inclusive communities of opportunity, ensuring that all members of our community can pursue the American Dream; and

 

WHEREAS, within the City of Toledo and throughout Lucas and Wood Counties, The Fair Housing Center has advanced the goals of the Fair Housing Act through advocacy for anti-discriminatory housing policies, education and outreach, and direct assistance to victims of housing discrimination, including investigation and legal enforcement of their rights; and

 

WHEREAS, the fiftieth anniversary of The Fair Housing Center provides an opportunity to reflect on the importance of fair housing and reaffirm the City of Toledo’s ongoing commitment to equity, justice, and inclusion in housing for all its residents.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, Be it resolved by the Council of the City of Toledo:

 

SECTION 1. That the City of Toledo recognizes the fiftieth anniversary of the founding of The Fair Housing Center and its dedicated team are hereby commended for their contributions to the community in furtherance of the goals and that the City of Toledo commits to affirmatively furthering the goals of the Fair Housing Act, and another fifty years of partnership with The Fair Housing Center.

 

SECTION 2. That this Resolution shall take effect and be in force from and after the earliest period allowed by law.
