SUMMARY & BACKGROUND:

The Toledo Police Department has developed a successful School Resource Officer Program, which assigns officers to Washington Local Senior and Junior High Schools.  Washington Local Schools (WLS) has agreed to provide an amount of $93,657.16 for this one-year agreement to continue funding the program for the 2026-2027 school years.  That amount represents one-half the salary and benefits of the officer assigned to Washington Local Schools for the nine-month school year.  WLS has paid one-half of the salaries since the 1999-2000 school years. 

 

Summary

NOW THEREFORE Be it ordained by the Council of the City of Toledo:

 

          SECTION 1. That the Mayor is authorized to enter into a School Resource Officer Program agreement with Washington Local Schools to continue the School Resource Officer Program for the 2026-2027 school year, under terms and conditions deemed appropriate by the Mayor, Director of Police Operations, and the Director of Law.

 

SECTION 2. That the Mayor is authorized to accept and deposit $93,657.16 into the General Fund Account Code 1001-52000-3381002STDSTD and the expenditure of the same is authorized for the above-authorized purpose. 

 

                     SECTION 3. That the Director of Finance is authorized to issue warrant or warrants against the above listed Account Code in an amount not to exceed $93,657.16 upon the presentation of voucher or vouchers in payment of the obligations authorized in Section 1.

 

SECTION 4. That this Ordinance is declared to be an emergency measure and shall be in force and effect from and after its passage.  The reason for the emergency lies in the fact that it is necessary for the immediate preservation of the public peace, health, safety, and property, and to receive the funds in a timely manner from Washington Local Schools and continue the program.
