Title

Recognizing July as Postpartum Awareness Month.

Summary

WHEREAS, the postpartum period, defined as the time following childbirth, is a critical phase in the health and well-being of both the birthing parent and infant; and

WHEREAS, postpartum recovery encompasses physical, emotional, and psychological adjustments, including healing from childbirth, hormonal changes, and the transition to parenthood; and

WHEREAS, many individuals experience postpartum conditions, including postpartum depression, anxiety, and other mood disorders, which affect approximately 1 in 5 birthing parents and often go undiagnosed or untreated; and

WHEREAS, access to timely, culturally competent, and comprehensive postpartum care is essential to improving maternal and infant health outcomes; and

WHEREAS, disparities in maternal health outcomes persist across socioeconomic, racial, and geographic lines, highlighting the urgent need for increased awareness, education, and equitable healthcare access; and

WHEREAS, family members, healthcare and mental healthcare providers, doulas, employers, and communities all play a critical role in supporting postpartum individuals through education, compassion, and access to resources; and

WHEREAS, increasing public awareness of postpartum health can reduce stigma, promote early intervention, and encourage individuals to seek help when needed.
