WHEREAS, as one of the longest-standing charitable organizations in the region, United Way of Greater Toledo has proudly served our community since 1918; and
WHEREAS, United Way of Greater Toledo’s 211 is a twenty four-seven free and anonymous information and referral service available to all Toledo-area residents with a health or human service need; and
WHEREAS, 211 provides an essential public infrastructure, hosting a database connecting residents to 800 organizations and more than 2,300 programs, including disaster relief, access to food, housing, utility assistance, employment services, childcare, healthcare, legal services, veterans services, tax preparation, and much more; and
WHEREAS, 211’s specially-trained Community Resource Advisors offer unparalleled, compassionate care and service to callers, asking the second question to uncover root causes and concerns to serve our community in a holistic manner; and
WHEREAS, more than 75,000 individuals contact 211 through calls, text, and chat each year to get access to the help they need and services that improve the quality of their lives and the livelihood of our entire community; and
WHEREAS, annually February 11 is the local and national day of public awareness for 211, its staff, and its consistent and unwavering commitment to the community; NOW, THEREFORE,
Be it resolved by the Council of the City of Toledo:
SECTION 1. That February 11th henceforth be celebrated as 211 Day in the City of Toledo and a day to respect and acknowledge the needs of all of our citizens and our community’s commitment to uniting the caring power of people to improve lives.
SECTION 2. That this Resolution shall take effect and be in force from and after the earliest period allowed by law.
