Committing to the Implementation of Policies, Programs, and Investments that Strengthen Access to Full Community Participation for Individuals with Disabilities, Older Adults, Caregivers, and their Families
Summary
WHEREAS, the City of Toledo is committed to fostering a community where all residents have the opportunity to live, work, learn, participate, and thrive regardless of age, ability, or circumstance; and
WHEREAS, accessible, inclusive, and age-friendly communities strengthen neighborhoods, improve quality of life, promote independence, and contribute to the social and economic vitality or the city; and
WHEREAS, the City recognizes the importance of proactively addressing physical, social, communication, and policy barriers that limit participation by individuals with disabilities and older adults; and
WHEREAS, the City Council acknowledges the expertise and lived experience of individuals with disabilities, disability advocacy organizations, service providers, aging organizations, caregivers, and community stakeholders in identifying and addressing barriers to accessibility and inclusion; and
WHEREAS, the City seeks to promote policies and practices that advance accessibility, inclusion, equity, safety, and opportunity for all residents.
NOW THEREFORE, Be it resolved by the Council of the City of Toledo:
SECTION 1: That we affirm our commitment to advancing accessibility, inclusion, and age-friendly principles throughout public spaces, housing, community development, transportation, public engagement, and the delivery of municipal services.
SECTION 2: That we support efforts to identify and remove barriers that limit full participation by individuals with disabilities and encourage incorporation of accessibility and universal design principles in public and private development whenever feasible.
SECTION 3: That we are dedicated to ensuring all City of Toledo departments abide by Federal regulations including but not limited to accessible housing, services, and equal access to public accommodations.
SECTION 4: That we will prioritize legislation and expenditures that are aligned with the Disability Policy Agenda.
SECTION 5: That this Resolution shall take effect and be in force from and after the earliest period allowed by law.
