Recognizing Diane Larson for her dedication to the news and the Toledo community.
Summary
WHEREAS, a longtime news anchor for northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan, Diane Larson, signed off air for the last time on November 14, 2024; and
WHEREAS, Diane retired from 13 Action News after over 40 years total in broadcasting; for 35 of those years, she was the lead anchor at WTVG-TV and previously worked as a managing editor; and
WHEREAS, though Diane was said to unofficially begin her journalism career in grade school, she officially started her career as a news anchor on channel 24, then WDHO, while attending Bowling Green State University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Broadcast Journalism; and
WHEREAS, throughout her career, Diane, an award-winning journalist, has celebrated her accomplishments with Emmy awards, Associated Press awards, and Edward R. Murrow awards, not to mention the dozens of awards she earned for the station; and
WHEREAS, recognized locally, Diane received the Toledo Press Club Golden Touchstone Award, was named YWCA Milestones honoree, one of the 100 Women of Influence by the Girl Scouts of Western Ohio and she was the second woman, and the first living woman, to be inducted into the Ohio Associated Press Broadcasters Hall of Fame at the time of her award; and
WHEREAS, Diane is a mentor who leads by example and a friend to all. Known for her quick wit and humor, she even made national TV, on Bloopers & Practical Jokes, for the “lights out moment” during a local broadcast, and we cannot forget the on-air marriage proposal she received.
NOW, THEREFORE, Be it resolved by the Council of the City of Toledo:
SECTION 1. That we recognize Diane Larson for her 40 years of dedication to the news, the Toledo community, and all of whom she has and will continue to inspire.
