A resolution recognizing Jerry Anderson, WTOL anchor, on his retirement.
Summary
WHEREAS, Jerry Anderson will be retiring from a long and successful career in broadcast journalism on June 15, 2018, most recently as main anchor at WTOL-TV 11; and
WHEREAS, Jerry began his broadcasting career at WFOB radio in Bowling Green in 1974 and started his television news career in Toledo in September of 1980; and
WHEREAS, during Jerry’s illustrious career, he earned prestigious honors by winning the Ohio Associated Press Broadcasters "Best News Anchor" in Ohio, the National Academy of Arts and Sciences’ Emmy for “Outstanding News Anchor,” the Press Club of Toledo’s “Golden Touchstone” award for substantial and positive impact on journalism in northwest Ohio, two Crystal Awards of Excellence from Women in Communication, and twice winning the esteemed Edward R. Murrow award for news reporting; and
WHEREAS, during his career, Jerry has covered four national political conventions, three presidential inaugurations, Pope John Paul II's visit to Detroit, and traveled to Yokohama, Japan for an in-depth series comparing the lives of Japanese and American auto workers; and
WHEREAS, Jerry chose to pursue his career in his hometown of Toledo where he is very active in the community with a busy schedule of appearances as Master of Ceremonies or event Celebrity Auctioneer helping raise countless dollars for area non-profits with an emphasis on helping schools, economically-challenged kids and families, and the developmentally disabled; and
WHEREAS, Jerry has been married to Teri for more than 30 years; and
WHEREAS, Jerry’s humor and story-telling abilities will continue beyond retirement through his children and grandchildren; NOW THEREFORE,
Be it resolved by the Council of the City of Toledo:
SECTION 1. That Toledo City Council recognizes Jerry Anderson for his outstanding career and his service to Toledo and wishes him many, many years of good health and much happiness.
SECTION 2. That this Resolution shall take effect and be in force from and after the earliest period allowed by law.
