Title

Authorizing the Mayor to enter into a one-year school resource officer program agreement with Toledo Public Schools; accept and deposit $244, 873.76 into the General Fund in the payment for services provided by Toledo Police Department; authorizing the expenditure of the same; and declaring an emergency.

 

Body

SUMMARY & BACKGROUND:

The Toledo Police Department has developed a successful School Resource Officer Program which will assign 6 officers to certain Toledo Public Schools. The Toledo Public Schools (TPS) has agreed to provide an amount of $244,873.76 for this one-year agreement. That amount represents one-half the salary and benefits of the officers assigned to TPS for the nine-month school year. TPS has paid one-half of the salaries since the 1999-2000 school year.

 

Summary

NOW THEREFORE Be it ordained by the Council of the City of Toledo:

 

           SECTION 1. That the Mayor is authorized to enter into an agreement with Toledo Public Schools to continue the School Resource Officer Program for the 2024-2025 school year, under terms and conditions deemed appropriate by the Director of Police Operations and the Director of Law.

 

SECTION 2. That the Mayor is authorized to accept and deposit $244,873.76 to the General Fund Account Code 1001-52000-3381002STDSTD, and the expenditure of the same is authorized for the above-authorized purpose.

 

                     SECTION 3. That the Director of Finance is authorized to issue warrant or warrants against the above listed account code in an amount not to exceed $244,873.76 in payment of the obligations authorized in Section 1.

 

SECTION 4.  That this Ordinance is declared to be an emergency measure and shall be in force and effect from and after its passage.  The reason for the emergency lies in the fact that it is necessary for the immediate preservation of the public peace, health, safety, and property, and to receive the funds in a timely manner from Toledo Public Schools and continue the program.

 

Vote on emergency clause:  yeas 12, nays 0.
