Title

Honoring Tyreese Blue II, the 2025 Ohio Boys and Girls Club “Youth of the Year”

Summary

WHEREAS, Tyreese Blue II was born and raised in Toledo, the son of Marybel White and Mike White; and

WHEREAS, Tyreese first attended the Boys and Girls Club in February 2022 as a shy sophomore, but staff say he has grown exponentially since then, becoming a confident leader and setting an example for others to follow; and

WHEREAS, now 17 years old, Tyreese is graduating from Toledo Early College, where he attended high school and received enough college credits to be a Junior by the time he arrives at the University of Toledo this fall; and

WHEREAS, Tyreese’s dedication to the community extends beyond his academic interests and participation in the Boys and Girls Club; he has volunteered for local organizations like SAME Café, Birmingham Branch Library, and Helping Young People Excel; and

WHEREAS, Tyreese was awarded the John E. Gunckel Award for Service by the Schoenrock Family Boys and Girls Club last year, for his community service, leadership, and mentorship in the club; and

WHEREAS, as a finalist for the Youth of the Year Award, Tyreese attended a competition of written and rhetorical skill with 9 other nominees in Columbus, for which he wrote three essays, submitted two letters of recommendation and gave an excellent speech to the groups gathered there; and

WHEREAS, Jim Ravas, the President and CEO of Boys & Girls Clubs of Toledo described him this way: “Tyreese Blue reminds us that real leadership starts with character, resilience and the quiet determination to lift others up. As he represents Ohio on a larger stage, his story is a powerful example of what young people can achieve when given the chance-and why we must keep opening doors for the next generation.”

NOW THEREFORE, Be it resolved by the Council of the City of Toledo that:

SECTION 1. We honor Tyreese Blue II for this prestigious award and the evident character, intellect, and hard work for which he was chosen.
