SUMMARY & BACKGROUND:

Since 2017 the City of Toledo has been a partner in the development of the Lucas County Active Transportation plan.  The Lucas County Active Transportation Plan can help the citizens of Toledo in many ways such as improving their mental and physical health through active lifestyle, improve access to job opportunities, medical care, and commercial services through the development of interconnected pedestrian and bike facilities, and reduce the number and severity of crashes involving pedestrians and bicyclists. 

 

The plan vision is the by 2040 Lucas County will be an accessible community where people of all ages and abilities, including children, can conveniently, comfortably, affordably, and safely walk, cycle, or use public transit as part of their everyday travel behaviors.

 

There are four goal categories that have been developed to implement the vision.  The goal categories are Health & Safety, Livability, Equity, and Sustainability.

 

Summary

NOW, THEREFORE, Be it resolved by the Council of the City of Toledo:

 

SECTION 1.                     That the City of Toledo commits to vision that by 2040 the City of Toledo will be an accessible community where people of all ages and abilities, including children, can conveniently, comfortably, affordably, and safely walk, cycle, or use public transit as part of their everyday travel behaviors.

 

                     SECTION 2.  That this Resolution is declared to be an emergency measure and shall be in force and effect from and after its adoption.  The reason for the emergency lies in the fact that same is necessary for the immediate preservation of the public peace, health, safety, and property and for the further reason that this Resolution must be immediately effective in order to allow for the expeditious rehabilitation of sidewalks and driveway approaches to locations listed in Section 1 herein.

 

Vote on emergency clause:  yeas 11, nays 0.

 

Adopted: April18, 2023, as an emergency measure:  yeas 11, nays 0.
