Recognizing the University of Toledo 2023 Women’s and Men’s Tennis Teams on their MAC Championships.
Summary
WHEREAS, today we celebrate the Toledo Rockets Women’s and Men’s Tennis Teams as they both won the 2023 Mid-American Conference regular-season; and
WHEREAS, the women ended 2023 with a perfect 10-0 league record, the first MAC title in program history, and earned the No. 1 seed in the MAC Tournament, a 20-4 record overall and the most wins in school history; and
WHEREAS, the men’s team claimed their first MAC title since 1973, becoming co-champions with an 8-2 league record and the No. 1 seed in the MAC Tournament and qualified for the NCAA Tournament for the first-time school history; and
WHEREAS, the Rockets had a total of one MAC Player of the Year, one MAC Co-Player of the Year, and six were named All-MAC team, including one who won 43 consecutive matches and was named MAC Player of the Year for the second consecutive season; and
WHEREAS, the Head Coaches, Tracy Mauntler and Al Wermer were both named MAC Coach of the Year for the first time in their careers; Wermer has won 317 matches in his 26 years at Toledo; and
WHEREAS, the women’s team earned a 3.642 team GPA and the men a 3.679 in the 2023 spring semester; seven total players were named Academic All-MAC; and
WHEREAS, the women’s and men’s teams were both named ITA All-Academic Teams; this is the third consecutive season for the women and the sixth for the men; ten players were named ITA Scholar-Athletes; NOW, THEREFORE,
Be it resolved by the Council of the City of Toledo:
SECTION 1. That Toledo City Council hereby recognizes the University of Toledo Rocket 2023 Women’s and Men’s Tennis Teams on their MAC Championships.
SECTION 2. That this Resolution shall take effect and be in force from and after the earliest period allowed by law.
