Recognize Toledo Buffalo Soldiers Motorcycle Club.
Summary
WHEREAS, the Toledo Buffalo Soldiers Motorcycle Club’s mission is community service with emphases on youth, providing information on the heritage and rich history of the 9th & 10th Cavalry Regiments of the United States Army's Buffalo Soldiers and their contributions to the United States of America and promoting safe and enjoyable motorcycling; and
WHEREAS, the Buffalo Soldiers have adopted Wilson Park and youth programs and their support has assisted in bettering the lives of citizens living in this area; and
WHEREAS, Wilson Park has a baseball diamond, basketball, tennis and soccer courts, swimming pool and youth reflection park; and
WHEREAS, a couple of years past, the Buffalo Soldiers assessed the repairs needed to open the swimming pool and working with Local 500, Labor Union, and Local 50, Pipe Fitters, repaired the water delivery systems and conducted maintenance on the pool buildings to get the pool opened for the season; and
WHEREAS, in celebrating the 25th anniversary of National Buffalo Soldiers Day at Wilson Park, the Wilson Park Advisory Board recognized their contributions to the park and hung a picture of Col Charles Young over the fireplace in the Shelter House; and
WHEREAS, the Buffalo Soldiers plan to conduct history programs for youth at the park and plan a movie series one Saturday a month starting with movies about the 9th and 10th Cavalry Buffalo Soldiers; and
WHEREAS, the Buffalo Soldiers plan to install an overhead screen and projector in the Shelter House and permanent benches and a stand-alone patio with a permanent canopy in the park; and
WHEREAS, the Buffalo Soldiers have committed $1,000 in funding for this year’s kids swimming season; NOW, THEREFORE,
Be it resolved by the Council of the City of Toledo:
SECTION 1. That the Toledo Buffalo Soldiers Motorcycle Club is hereby recognized for their continued support of Wilson Park and youth programs in their adopted park.
SECTION 2. That this Resolution shall take effect and be in force from and after the earliest period allowed by law.
