Recognizing the 2024 Toledo Ohio After-School All-Stars First Responder-Led Mentorship Program Mentors and Mentees.
Summary
SUMMARY & BACKGROUND:
WHEREAS, since 1992, the national After-School All-Stars (ASAS) has provided critical support and services to low-income youth, bridging the opportunity gap and providing them with a wide range of enrichment activities; and
WHEREAS, like many cities, Toledo suffered from urban sprawl, leaving behind families with fewer opportunities for employment and resources, and while many families still call Toledo home, parents often have to look for work outside of their neighborhood, which leads to children having limited options for the after-school hours before their parents return from work; and
WHEREAS, in 2012, confronted with the tremendous opportunity gap facing Toledo families, the Superintendent of Toledo Public Schools partnered with After-School All-Stars (ASAS) to offer a more dynamic and comprehensive and unique after school programs in Birmingham Elementary and Walbridge Elementary Schools; and,
WHEREAS, the ASAS Ohio Mentorship Program provides trained mentors who work in public safety to connect with children living in at-risk environments who would benefit from a mentor, and the youth in the program receive support, hope, and guidance to maximize their potential for lasting change in our communities; and
WHEREAS, Toledo Community partners include members of Toledo Public Schools, Toledo Fire and Rescue Department, Toledo Police Department, Ohio State Highway Patrol, and Goodwill Industries; the 2024 All Star Toledo Mentors are:

NOW, THEREFORE, Be it Resolved by the Council of the City of Toledo, Ohio (the Council):
SECTION 1. That the 2024 Toledo Ohio After-School All-Stars First Responder-Led Mentorship Program Mentors and Mentees are commended, congratulated and wished the very best in their future endeavors.
SECTION 2. That this Resolution shall take effect and be in force from and after the earliest period allowed by law.
