Title

Recognizing Fire Chief Brian Byrd on the occasion of his retirement and expressing gratitude for his many years of public service.

 

Summary

WHEREAS, Chief Byrd was appointed to Toledo Fire and Rescue on February 5, 1988 and has chosen to retire December 10, 2021, fulfilling 33 years of service; and

 

WHEREAS, Brian Byrd, is considered highly educated, graduating from St. John’s Jesuit High School as a Merit Scholar, also attending Pennsylvania State University, University of Toledo, Owens Community College and the National Fire Academy; and

 

WHEREAS, Chief Byrd has been certified as a Nationally Recognized EMT- Paramedic from Northwest Ohio Paramedic Training at UTMC receiving both Academic and Clinical excellence awards; and

 

WHRAS, Brian Byrd quickly climbed the ranks, he was promoted to Lieutenant in 1992, Captain in 1997, Battalion Chief in 2000 prior to Chief in 2018; and

 

WHEREAS, Chief Byrd has received numerous awards, including the Life saving award from the Toledo Fire and Rescue Department and the heroism award from the Safety Council of Northwest Ohio; and

 

WHEREAS, he is truly a public servant for many causes serving as a Member of the Advisory Board for Salvation Army, and Chairman of the African American Male Wellness Initiative; and

 

WHEREAS, Chief Byrd will not be bored for long returning soon to again serve the citizens of Toledo, may he enjoy his newly acquired spare time with his wife of 31 years, Pam, three sons and that new grandson; and

 

WHEREAS, may he take the time to enjoy his love of jazz music while watching soccer, Chelsea of English Premier League, to be specific, or closer to home, the Mud Hens, with his 4-legged friends; Tigger and Titan; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

Be it resolved by the Council of the City of Toledo:

 

SECTION 1.  That Chief Brian Byrd is hereby recognized and honored for his leadership, compassion, kindness, his countless achievements and contributions to public service and that he is wished relaxation and good health in his retirement from Chief of Toledo Fire and Rescue.

 

SECTION 2.  That this Resolution shall take effect and be in force from and after the earliest period allowed by law.
