Recognizing National Small Business Week in Toledo
Summary
SUMMARY & BACKGROUND:
WHEREAS, National Small Business Week, first proclaimed by the President of the United States in 1963, celebrates the critical role that small businesses play in our nation’s economy and offers an opportunity to uplift and support local entrepreneurs; and
WHEREAS, according to the U.S. Small Business Administration, there are approximately 35 million small businesses nationally which employ 59 million people accounting for 46% of America’s private workforce; and
WHEREAS, small businesses comprise approximately 98% of all businesses in the City of Toledo, serving as vital drivers of innovation, job creation, and economic growth; and
WHEREAS, from family-owned shops and neighborhood restaurants to machine shops, local contractors, and tech startups, small businesses breathe life into our neighborhoods - keeping storefronts active, building community pride, creating gathering places, and giving residents a reason to invest in the place they call home; and
WHEREAS, Toledo’s small businesses are built by hardworking people - people who put in long hours, take pride in their work, and keep our local economy moving by providing everyday essentials, creating meaningful jobs, and helping to strengthen our neighborhoods - proving every day that You Will Do Better in Toledo; and
WHEREAS, small business owners and their employees have overcome unprecedented challenges in recent years and continue to demonstrate their strength and determination, even in the face of economic uncertainty; and
WHEREAS, the City of Toledo recognizes the importance of providing an economic environment where small businesses can grow and thrive through equitable access to resources, reduced barriers to entry, and community-wide collaboration;
NOW THEREFORE, Be it resolved that:
SECTION 1: That Toledo City Council does hereby recognize May 4 through May 10 as National Small Business Week and urge the residents of Toledo to support small businesses on National Small Business Week and throughout the year.
SECTION 2: That this Resolution shall take effect and be in force from and after the earliest period allowed by law.
