Recognizing Toledo Lucas County Public Library for receiving the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) National Medal Award.
Summary
WHEREAS, the Toledo Lucas County Public Library under the leadership of Executive Director Jason Kucsma was awarded the National Medal from the Institute of Museum and Library Service which is the highest honor to be awarded to museums and libraries in the United States; and
WHEREAS, the Toledo Lucas County Public Library was nominated by Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur who was “humbled to have made the nomination for this prestigious award, and was so pleased to see it come back to her hometown of Toledo” and support was also shown from Senator Sherrod Brown, Ohio First Lady Fran DeWine, President of Mercy Health Toledo Bob Baxter and Connecting Kids to Meals President and CEO Wendy Huntley; and
WHEREAS, the award was created to recognize museums and libraries that make significant and exceptional contribution to their communities; and
WHEREAS, the Toledo Lucas County Public Library serves as a hub of activity in every neighborhood; serving 300,000 cardholders with twenty locations throughout the Toledo Lucas County area, the libraries are a gathering place from morning until night; whether it’s story time for toddlers or resume help for working adults, the Toledo Lucas County Public Library serves a wide variety of needs throughout the community; and
WHEREAS, the innovation in services and offerings to support the community have been boundless and the dedication to provide those services even through the difficulty of the pandemic was an immeasurable asset to the health and vitality of the community; NOW, THEREFORE,
Be it resolved by the Council of the City of Toledo:
SECTION 1. That Council recognizes the contributions to our community made by the Toledo Lucas County Public Library and congratulates the organization on the much-deserved recognition of the IMLS National Medal.
SECTION 2. That this Resolution shall take effect and be in force from and after the earliest period allowed by law.
