Recognizing Councilman Tom Waniewski.

 

Summary

WHEREAS, on this 15th day of October, 2019, we recognize Councilman Tom Waniewski for his twelve years on Toledo City Council, beginning January 1, 2008; and

 

WHEREAS, while serving on Toledo City Council, Councilman Waniewski worked diligently by taking a lead in creating the Sylvania corridor, modernizing taxi cab regulations, organization of the 2018 Budget and the District Improvement Program; and 

 

WHEREAS, Councilman Waniewski currently serves as Chair of the Budget Oversight Committee and is a member of the following Council Committees: Neighborhoods, Community Development & Health, Regional Growth, Development & Small Business Enterprise, Water Quality & Sustainability and Zoning & Planning; and

 

WHEREAS, Councilman Waniewski is known for his punctuality, staying on subject and moving meetings along, while welcoming all views of the subject at hand to determine the best outcome for the constituents of Toledo; and

 

WHEREAS, Councilman Waniewski also serves the public in many other ways: Development Director at St. Paul’s Community Center, former Commissioner of Ohio Public Works Commission, Board Chairman of the Polish Cultural Advisory Board, Chairman of the United Way of Greater Toledo, Mom’s House, St. Joseph School and the University of Toledo Professional Staff Council; and

 

WHEREAS, Councilman Waniewski, a former investigative reporter and producer, was responsible for busting a four-state dog-fighting ring centered in Lucas County; while in this role, he earned several awards including three Emmy’s: 1980, Investigative Reporting; 1991, Public Relations; 1994, TV Production; other awards include Press Club of Toledo’s Norm Cartwright Award, 2008; Philanthropist of the Year; Mom’s House, 2005 and Outstanding Alum; University of Toledo, 2002 & 2014; and

 

WHEREAS, along with the awards he won, Councilman Waniewski is also credited with five publishing credits: Eclairs and Bandsaws, How to Build Consumer Muscle, Our Place, Lessons in Fatherhood, Pitcher Back in the Spotlight; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

Be it resolved by the Council of the City of Toledo:

SECTION 1.  That Toledo City Council wishes Councilman Tom Waniewski well in his new endeavor as the University of Toledo’s Director of Local Relations in the University’s Government Relations office and thank him for his 12 years on Toledo City Council.

 

SECTION 2.  That this Resolution shall take effect and be in force from and after the earliest period allowed by law.
