Recognizing Danny Brown-Martinez and Stephen Bates for their 20 Under 40 recognition.
Summary
WHEREAS, every year since 1996, 20 Under 40 chooses to recognize twenty young leaders from Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan who have distinguished themselves in their careers and communities. The City of Toledo is recognizing two of the recipients who are part of Toledo’s emergency services; and
WHEREAS, Danny Brown-Martinez, a Battalion Chief for the City of Toledo Fire and Rescue Department, who also leads the recruitment program, increased the hiring of women and minorities from 4% to 30%; and
WHEREAS, Danny Brown-Martinez, a Summa Cum Laude graduate of Siena Heights University, holds numerous merits and citations for his professionalism and heroism. He is also co-chair of the City of Toledo Employee Engagement Committee and of the TFRD Women of Courage event, and an executive board member of the East Toledo Family Center, as well as other volunteer positions; and
WHEREAS, Stephen Bates is a training officer for the Toledo Police Department, a crisis intervention trained team member, and a member of the Chief of Police’s Ignite Team. He served for eight years in the US Army as an infantryman during Operation Noble Eagle, Operation Iraqi Freedom, and Hurricane Katrina Relief, where he received letters of recognition and medals for his service; and
WHEREAS, Stephen Bates is active in the community, being the manager for the Toledo Police Hockey team that supports local non-profits, such as the Ability Center, Family and Child Abuse Prevention Center, Leadership Toledo, and many more; NOW, THEREFORE,
Be it resolved by the Council of the City of Toledo:
SECTION 1. That Danny Brown-Martinez and Stephen Bates are recognized for their commitment to the city and people of Toledo and for their dedication to the fire department and police department.
SECTION 2. That this Resolution shall take effect and be in force from and after the earliest period allowed by law.
