Title

Authorizing the Mayor to apply for a grant from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) in the amount of $91,564 for improvements to the Grove Patterson tennis courts; and declaring an emergency.

Body

SUMMARY & BACKGROUND:

The City of Toledo, Division of Parks and Recreation is seeking authorization to apply for funds granted by Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) through their NatureWorks Program to support necessary renovations to the tennis courts at Grove Patterson Park. Through conversations with the adjacent elementary school and community partners, staff have determined that activation of the tennis courts can be greatly improved by implementing these improvements.  The proposed renovations include re-paving the entire game court area, partial replacement of the fencing, and sidewalk adjustments to improve accessibility.  The grant requires a minimum 25% match from the City of Toledo, which will be met through an internal District Improvement Program grant of $60,000 sponsored by District 5 Councilman Sam Melden.

Summary

NOW THEREFORE Be it ordained by the Council of the City of Toledo:

SECTION 1.  That the Mayor is authorized to apply for a grant from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) in the amount of $91,564 to support renovations to the tennis courts at Grove Patterson Park.
