Body

Referral Response:

ICT spoke with Roger Streiffert at Lake Erie West. They are using new aerial imaging (2026) to create Raster tree canopy of the area.

This will be used to see where gaps are present in the region. Forestry is looking for an updated asset inventory to develop a prioritized management plan.

These 2 projects are very different.

Forestry asked the proposals to respond to the existing LiDAR data City/ County has.

Leaf-off LiDAR, such as the data the city has, can derive some tree-related attributes. However, several attributes cannot be derived using the City's existing LiDAR data due to the data’s age or that is leaf-off , aerial LiDAR with a lower point density than required to develop a forestry digital twin. The current data is from 2022. We want a current inventory for 2027-2028. 2022 data is already 5 years old.

The essential product being delivered is an updated tree inventory and management plan (so we can best prioritize pruning and removals over 3 -5 years); LiDAR and the associated technology software (digital tree twins) is how the inventory will be created and the management priorities determined.

IT is meeting with Lake Erie West later this month to discuss potential collaboration projects.
