The LCSWMD had GT Environmental complete one audit of the city of Toledo recyclable materials within the last three years in May 2024. The objective was to characterize the recyclables collected by Republic for the City of Toledo curbside recycling program to estimate quantities of materials in the recycling Stream. The audit was completed from one composite sample compiled by Republic. The results reported a residual or contamination rate of 34%, and compared the data to a 2016 GT Environmental audit that reported a slightly higher contamination rate of 35%. It is important to note that past audits concentrated on the contents of the recyclables and not necessarily specific routes. The proposed audit as part of this legislation will focus on contents and routes to gain additional information to identify areas for improvement in the curbside recycling program.
