Referral Response:

At this time funding in the amount of $150,000 is intended to assist with predevelopment cost for construction of a new Seaway in the Englewood NRSA.  Owners have identified a target site and are interested in building, not renting a store that will be around 20,000 square feet, which is the minimum size to achieve efficient operations.  When the Food Policy Manager comes on board, we will of course be pursuing other funding to support other projects.

Yes a Community Benefits Agreement will be executed by the owners that will include requirement to offer fresh and healthy produce; as well as providing job opportunities for residents of the neighborhood.

Assuming funds are approved we will start predevelopment work in January. We don’t have a projected start date for construction.  Predevelopment funds will be used for A&E work necessary to complete project planning and design. Based on estimated construction, interior fixtures and food inventory costs, they are projecting a budget of $10 million that could be funded from several sources including debt, new markets tax credits, and food access grants.  The hard work ahead is putting the capital stack together for the project.
