Body

Referral Response:

TO:                                                               Toledo City Council

THROUGH:                                          Abby Arnold, Deputy Mayor

FROM:                                          Megan Robson, Public Service Director

In 2023, the city paid $110,562 for 2,096 tons of contaminated recyclables to be managed at Kuhlman's yard and transported back to the landfill for solid waste disposal. Once recyclables leave Kuhlman's yard they are processed at Oberlin, Ohio.  Based on the last audit, it is estimated 37% of additional contaminated recyclables are in the recycling stream, decreasing the value or rebate from the city’s stream.
