Summary

WHEREAS, Miss Ruby Butler recently closed the doors to Ruby’s Kitchen for the final time; retiring after 20 plus years of serving up “Southern Cooking Guaranteed to Satisfy”; and

WHEREAS, Miss Ruby, a self-proclaimed “homebody” in her youth, learned her culinary skills from her mother; and

WHEREAS, Miss Ruby retired from Chrysler in early 2000, and it was then that she fulfilled her lifelong dream of owning a restaurant; and

WHEREAS, Miss Ruby first opened a restaurant on Parkside Avenue, and in 2004 Ruby’s Kitchen opened in the Library Village Plaza on Dorr Street; eventually moving to its final location at 805 N. Reynolds Road; and

WHEREAS, Miss Ruby’s homemade soul food brought in folks from all around to enjoy everything from the meats and the sides, down to her famous peach cobbler; and

WHEREAS, entering the doors to Ruby’s Kitchen was like returning home; Miss Ruby’s hospitality was always warm and inviting; and

WHEREAS, though Miss Ruby admits that running a restaurant was not always easy, nonetheless she feels, “being a black woman and having a business… is so important.”; and

WHEREAS, Miss Ruby not only served her family legacy, she served it alongside of her own family.

NOW THEREFORE, Be it resolved that:

 

SECTION 1. that we celebrate Miss Ruby Butler for her 20 plus years serving fresh, southern, soul food and treating everyone like family.
