SUMMARY & BACKGROUND:
In accordance with national goals, the City of Toledo declared its commitment to implement sustainable initiatives and to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to address factors of climate change and environmental inequalities. To date, the city has taken action by adopting a resolution to become a member of the Power a Clean Future Ohio Communities and identified a goal to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 (RES. 356-21). Furthermore, Council approved amending the Toledo Municipal Code (TMC) to add Chapter 182 to establish the Environmental Protection and Climate Resilience Commission and a One Percent Environmental Fund to support projects focused on reducing greenhouse gas emissions and other sustainability initiatives (ORD. 210-22).

In 2023, the Commission began meeting regularly to act as an advisory board and develop a process to prioritize resources spent from the One Percent Environmental Fund. The next step is to develop and adopt a Climate Action Plan to identify sources of greenhouse gas emissions and to identify and prioritize mitigating actions. A request for proposals was issued to identify a consultant with extensive experience in sustainability and resiliency planning to develop the Climate Action Plan. After following the competitive bidding process in accordance with the Toledo Municipal Code, Nutter Consulting LLC was selected by the city to be the lowest and best bidder.
