Authorizing the Mayor to enter into an agreement with the Ohio Office of Criminal Justice Services (OCJS) and to accept and deposit a grant in the amount of $1,064,143.49 to expand Save Our Communities (SOC), the City of Toledo's Community Violence Intervention (CVI) program, to four Toledo schools with high proportions of students at high risk of involvement in gun violence; authorizing the appropriation and expenditure of funds from the Operation Grants Fund for the program; authorizing the Mayor to enter into contracts for said program; and declaring an emergency.

SUMMARY & BACKGROUND:
The Mayor's Office has applied for and received a grant from the Ohio Office of Criminal Justice Services for $1,064,143.49 to expand the Save Our Community program to Waite, Scott, and Woodward High Schools and the Maritime Academy. The grant will fund two full-time Interrupters and one Outreach Specialist assigned specifically to each school (total 8 new Interrupters, 4 new Outreach Specialists) for the 2023-24 school year. There is no match required for this grant.
Summary
NOW, THEREFORE, Be it ordained by the Council of the City of Toledo:
SECTION 1. That the Mayor is authorized to enter into a grant agreement with the Ohio Office of Criminal Justice Services and to accept and deposit Community Violence Intervention grant funds in the amount of $1,064,143.49 into the Operation Grants Fund Account Code 2016-10201-3G01443STDSTD.
SECTION 2. That the appropriation of $1,064,143.49 is authorized from the unappropriated grant proceeds of the Operation Grants Fund to Account Code 2016-10201-3G01443STDSTD; and further authorizing the expenditure of same to expand the Save Our Community program to Waite, Scott, and Woodward High Schools and the Maritime Academy.
