Recognizing Chief George Kral on the occasion of his retirement and expressing gratitude for many years of public service.

 

Summary

WHEREAS, Chief George Kral began with the Toledo Police Department in December of 1990, and retired on January 9, 2023, fulfilling 33 years in service; and

 

WHEREAS, Chief Kral, served in the United States Navy from 1984 -1988; his education is extensive including the following:  Bachelors of Science degree, Masters in Science in Justice Administration, Graduate of the FBI National Executive Institute, a Certified Law Enforcement-Executive, and graduate of the Police Executive Leadership College; and

 

WHEREAS, Chief Kral climbed the ranks quickly, starting as a Field Operations Patrolman, promoted to Sergeant in 1995, Lieutenant in 2006, Captain in 2011, Deputy Chief in 2014 and Chief in 2015; and

 

WHEREAS, Chief Kral has been honored in so many ways; he received the Toledo Press Club Touchstone Award in 2018, Excellence in Criminal Justice Award in 2019, The Michael Kelley Excellence & Innovation in Policing Award in 2020, the Professional Service Medal, and was a finalist for the Jefferson Award in 2017; and

 

WHEREAS, Chief Kral is truly a public servant for his commitment; listing only a few of many professional memberships, these include Past President of the Ohio Association of Police Chiefs, Lucas County 9-1-1 Regional Council of Governments, International Association of Chiefs of Police, Police Executive Research Forum, Police Executive Leadership College, Alpha Phi Sigma-National Criminal Justice Honor Society, Lucas County Mental Health Recovery Board and the Ohio Peace Officer Training Council; and

 

WHEREAS, Chief Kral held many different assignments throughout the Toledo Police Department, serving in nearly every section; he has said his time as Chief was without a doubt his favorite, especially remembering his discussions with the 300 people on his front lawn in the summer of 2020; he was known as being very approachable, even while working out at 5:00 a.m.; and

 

WHEREAS, Chief Kral will not be bored for long; may he enjoy his newly acquired spare time with his wife, Therese, his two sons, Jordan and George, and that loved “Little Man” George, IV, as well as always having at his side his four-legged friends:  Brady, Nikko and Dallas; and

 

WHEREAS, may he take the time to enjoy his love of golf and martial arts; he will surely continue to cook and grill some fantastic meals, find some very fine bourbon, root on the New England Patriots and the Boston Red Sox, and may he be able to trade those game-specific Mud Hens tickets into a full season ticket; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

Be it resolved by the Council of the City of Toledo:

 

SECTION 1.  That Chief George Kral is hereby recognized and honored for his leadership, compassion, kindness, his countless achievements and contributions to public service, and that he is wished relaxation and good health in his retirement as Chief of the Toledo Police Department and be recognized for his dedicated service and contributions to the City of Toledo and its residents for the past 33 years.

 

SECTION 2.  That this Resolution shall take effect and be in force from and after the earliest period allowed by law.
