Recognizing "Maybe Cheese Born With It" Food Truck.

Summary
WHEREAS, "Maybe Cheese Born With It" is the clever name of the food truck founded by David Gedert, also known by his drag name "Sugar Vermont", that is Toledo's first and only mac 'n cheese food truck and Ohio's only Drag Queen food truck; and

WHEREAS, started during the Covid pandemic with a 1960's camper (painted pink and glittered), with little more than Tupperware, a hot plate, and minimal culinary experience Sugar, along with Keith Logue and the support of the LGBTQ community, began serving up loaded gourmet mac 'n cheese with delicious toppings and eye-catching menu selections, always with sass and a smile; and

WHEREAS, capitalizing on their crew of a diverse team featuring a gay man, a drag queen and a trans women of color, "Maybe Cheese Born With It" food truck entered, competed and placed second out of nine teams rolling around America on a mission to take home the $50,000 grand prize in season fifteen of The Great Food Truck Race featured nationally on the Food Network; and

WHEREAS, in addition to his success with the Great Food Truck race, Sugar's business acumen, artistic flair and charisma is attributed to his parents, and the Maybe Cheese Born With It team remain steadfast in their mission to build community relationships, organize a variety of events and benefits including food and school supply drives, and grow their business across the greater Toledo area by expanding into merchandising, a brick & mortar storefront as well as create leverage through pending television opportunities; and

WHEREAS, in a state where anti-LGBTQ laws are being introduced at an alarming rate, Toledo City Council recognizes the value that a successful, nationally recognized LGBTQ-owned business brings through representation of the LGBTQ community in the spirit of our Welcoming and Compassionate Cities designations; NOW, THEREFOR...
