Recognizing the Toledo Mud Hens 20th Anniversary in Downtown Toledo.
Summary
WHEREAS, on April 5, 2022, the Toledo Mud Hens celebrated their twentieth opening day at their home in Downtown Toledo, Fifth Third Field; and
WHEREAS, in the twenty years since our Toledo Mud Hens moved from Ned Skeldon Stadium to Fifth Third Field in the heart of Downtown Toledo, the area has experienced a renaissance; growing from six businesses in the surrounding three block radius to over 100 businesses in the same area; and
WHEREAS, since the first season at Fifth Third Field over 11 million fans have come to cheer on their team and there have been more than 600 sell out games; and
WHEREAS, the Mud Hens have been identified with Toledo's history since they first played under that name in 1896, and have proudly been supported by fans in Downtown Toledo for twenty years; and
WHEREAS, the Mud Hens and Fifth Third Field have been named one of the best ballparks in the United States as well as being recognized as the best minor league market in America; and
WHEREAS, the Mud Hens are the heart of the City of Toledo and we celebrate the 20th anniversary of bringing the Mud Hens back to the heart of Downtown; NOW, THEREFORE,
Be it resolved by the Council of the City of Toledo:
SECTION 1. That we recognize the long history of the Mud Hens and the City of Toledo and celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Mud Hens playing baseball in the heart of the Glass City and being instrumental in its revitalization.
SECTION 2. That this Resolution shall take effect and be in force from and after the earliest period allowed by law.
