Title
Recognizing Brothers United.
Summary
WHEREAS, Brothers United was created in 2015, as a means to help fathers in the community and by doing so, build a stronger community as a whole; and
WHEREAS, the original mission was to assist young fathers who were addicted to drugs, not in school, experiencing mental health issues, and living in the ten worst crime areas in Toledo; and
WHEREAS, in the years since implementation of the program the scope has expanded to serve many different segments of the community through Brothers United Healthy Start and Brothers and Sisters United; and
WHEREAS, the positive impact of the program has been tremendous with fathers being more prepared for the workforce, having a healthier understanding of relationships and marriage, and an improvement in financial planning skills as well as having a better comprehension of child support and how the system works; and
WHEREAS, in the first five years of the program 1,811 fathers were served with over fifty percent of participants completing the program and over five thousand children being served through the program; and
WHEREAS, with continued support, the men served by Brothers United can be the best dads possible because like participant Dasan Fordham said, "You have to put effort in being a dad because anybody can have kids, but you have to put in work to be a father;" NOW, THEREFORE,
