Recognize David Lemon for 25 years of neighborhood volunteerism.
Summary
WHEREAS, David Lemon has tirelessly devoted 25 years to the beautification and safety of South Toledo neighborhoods; and
WHEREAS, in 1997, Dave returned to Toledo after living in Columbus, founding his first neighborhood volunteer group in Hawthorne Hills, performing tasks ranging from weekly litter cleanup and landscape beautification to holding Block Watch meetings; and
WHEREAS, in 1998, he began quarterly neighborhood meetings at the former Southwyck Mall food court, later at All Saints Lutheran Church, with attendance growing over time from an average of 25 neighbors to 100, with the area expanding to include Ragan Woods, WhiteCliffes and Plum Tree subdivisions, over 800 residences; and
WHEREAS, Dave was instrumental in organizing and advocating on behalf of these neighborhoods during many successful South Reynolds Road commercial development projects, including the former Southwyck Mall, and nearby vacant hotel properties; and
WHEREAS, Dave spearheads an annual neighborhood landscape beautification project; this includes mulching, weeding, trimming and installation of shrubs and perennials, 100 percent privately funded, mostly by Dave himself; and
WHEREAS, Dave continues to conduct weekly litter removal walks, cleaning a one square mile area, collecting an average of 20 bags per week; he further conducts a weekly surveys of a two square mile area to document and report large items dumped curbside, to report inoperable vehicles to facilitate removal, and to report commercial and residential maintenance issues; NOW, THEREFORE,
Be it resolved by the Council of the City of Toledo:
SECTION 1. That David Lemon be recognized for his selfless dedicated service, volunteerism, and contributions to the City of Toledo and its residents for the past 25 years.
SECTION 2. That this Resolution shall take effect and be in force from and after the earliest period allowed by law.
