Title
Recognizing the African American Legacy Project of Northwest Ohio and the African American Sports Legends Hall of Fame.

Summary
WHEREAS, the month of February is recognized as Black History Month throughout the United States of America, but some individuals realize the importance of remembering the culture and history of marginalized peoples as a means to bring dignity and respect to their shared history and to change the future in a positive way; and

WHEREAS, the African American Legacy Project of Northwest Ohio was established in 2004, to build the almost lost history of some members of the Northwest Ohio community who would otherwise be forgotten despite their contributions and sacrifices; and

WHEREAS, the African American Sports Legends of Northwest Ohio is a component of the African American Legacy Project (AALP), whose mission is consistent with the vision, purpose and goals of the AALP, including, but is not limited to, the discovery, documentation and preservation of the histories and achievements of African American athletes, coaches and distinguished citizens who have made significant contributions to athletics through their genre, regardless of gender; and

WHEREAS, primary, but not exclusive, attention shall be directed towards those whose excellence have made a positive impact and influence upon the African American and/or global communities and who may be recognized and/or visually memorialized at a common venue in perpetuity in the Hall of Legends; and

WHEREAS, most notably, Council recognizes the vibrancy, tremendous work effort and commitment of this group ensuring the historical record reflects the nearly lost accomplishments of early athletes in this community; NOW, THEREFORE,
